Claim Jumper’s new owner snaps up another O.C. chain
Houston-based Landry’s Restaurants seems to be infatuated with Orange County restaurant brands.
The restaurant company, which sealed a deal last week to buy bankrupt Claim Jumper, has completed the acquisition of San Clemente-based Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Landry’s did not disclose the sale price.
Rumors had been circulating for a few weeks that Landry’s, owner of a slew of casual dining seafood chains, had been courting Bubba Gump. But owners on both sides refused to comment on any pending deal until Monday.
Named after the lovable Forrest Gump character in the 1994 film, the first Bubba Gump opened in 1996 in Monterey. Paramount Pictures partnered with Newport Beach-based Rusty Pelican to launch the Cajun-inspired seafood chain which capitalized on the success of film.
It now has 32 restaurants located in tourist locations across the world — from Anaheim to Times Square in New York City to Hong Kong.
“The business model of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. represents high volume restaurants and specialty locations making it an ideal fit for Landry’s model,” Landry’s chief executive Tilman J. Fertitta said in a prepared statement. “The concept has a loyal following and significant brand recognition, making it one of the hottest concepts in the casual family-dining restaurant industry today.”
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. generated about $200 million in sales across the globe in 2009 and averages revenue of $7.2 million per domestic store. Landry’s, whose string of chain concepts includes Rainforest Cafe, recently won a bid buy Claim Jumper for $76.6 million. (Read full Claim Jumper story here)

The experience with Magic Jumpers Orange County was a complete disaster. First of all, their customer service was absolutely terrible. We had a hard time getting in touch with someone to make a reservation, and when we finally did, we were treated rudely and given incorrect information. On the day of the event, the jumper we rented was late and in poor condition. It was dirty and some parts were torn. The worst part was that it didn't even hold up well during the event, which resulted in some kids getting hurt. I would never recommend Magic Jumpers Orange County to anyone.

I was quite disappointed with my experience with Magic Jumpers Orange County. The jumper we rented was not properly cleaned and smelled really bad. It seemed like it hadn't been maintained well, as it had multiple patches and some of the features were not working. The delivery was also late, and the staff was not very helpful or apologetic about it. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience and I would not use their services again.

Magic Jumpers Orange County is the worst. The jumper we rented for my child's birthday party was in terrible condition. It was dirty, ripped, and had stains all over it. It was obvious that it had not been properly maintained. Not only did it not look good, but it also didn't feel safe. The staff was rude and unhelpful when we complained about the condition of the jumper. I would highly advise against using their services. There are plenty of other companies out there that provide better options for inflatable rentals.
